Mersey Valley first team made a winning start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Partington Village.
The visitors arrived at Banky Lane having made the step up to the Cheshire League after winning a league and cup double last season.
After an even start - with both teams feeling each other out - MV got into gear around the 15-minute mark.
Their attacking play was a joy to watch and a very resolute Partington team started to feel the pressure.
On 25 minutes, a break by the very impressive 17-year-old Tom Millar led to him pulling a cross back to Reece Thompson, who coolly slotted home.
Valley carried on with wave after wave of attacks and on 40 minutes a lovely move ended with Ben Wild beating the keeper to the ball to head home and make it 2-0.
Valley got a little sloppy but their attacking threat returned 10 minutes into the second half and Thompson slotted home his second after a long-range effort was deflected.
Valley completely dominated the remainder of the match, leaving a hard-working Partington to only long-range efforts.
MV manager Lee Williams said: “This is a great start to the season for us but the lads know there is a long way to go.”
